i've
straddled two continents but my
weight is on the right, the
other where I left it; i
buried my heritage and
my taste for doenjang and
instead I won sensation.
twelve years
too quick to
sell myself to the
experiment, the
masterpiece, the
success and the assimilation.
i am eve born out of an ivory rib.
give me the apple.

Remember when you wanted so desperately to be the teacher's pet but to also seem "cool" to your friends? This poem is about identity in a similar sense. We lose part of the other side when we shift our weight.
