Never Shall I Forget
Never shall I forget those final three words my father shared with me while lying on his deathbed.
Never shall I forget the sound of his voice, so gentle and faint.
Never shall I forget the love and pain visible in his pale blue eyes.
Never shall I forget the doctors rushing through the halls, the needles being prepared by the nurses, the beeping and thumping of the machines, and the pain I felt so deep within me.
Never shall I forget the way it felt walking into the room, as if the weight of the world had fallen upon my shoulders.
Never shall I forget the chills that I felt, even though the room was so warm, I was still so cold.
Never shall I forget the words that were left unspoken, due to the delicacy of his voice.
Who knew silence could be so deafening?
Never shall I forget the warm tears that ran down my face, each one so gentle, however at the same time painful.
Never shall I forget that one phone call, and the sound of my mother weeping.
Never shall I forget those final three words,
"I love you"
Never.
