Speeding
Flying
In a car
Just trying to get there
Over the double yellow
Tires squealing
Sideways around the corners
Going to what will never be there again,
I fly into the driveway:
Immediately I know,
That I am too late,
Family sitting on the steps crumpled
Like their souls had just been stolen
Told me all I needed to know
And I hated myself for it,
All of the weight in the world collapses onto my chest
My lungs refuse to work
Choking on tears of agony
I sit in the driveway,
Staring,
Staring through my blurred vision at the garage light
Which is my only sense of reality,
My world is shattered,
My grandmother is gone forever
The one thing I prayed to do
I failed,
I never said
Goodbye forever
