Grand mug of coffee
Strong scent and deep brown color
Clear steam whirls up

Shiny silverware
Elegant cheesecake with fruit
Fork softly cuts slice

Cake chewed slowly
Coffee delicately sipped
Evening soon to come

The author's comments:

Haikus are traditionally meant to provide an image in the first line, and another image in the second line. The third line is then meant to compare or unify the two images in some way. Each of the verses in this poem is a haiku by itself, but the poem as a whole is meant to be what I've termed an "expanded" haiku. In this format, each verse is a standalone haiku, but the last one compares or unifies the previous two.
