Terror of Darkness
Nothing was the same,
Now that it was dark out.
Darkness distorts the senses:
Restricts vision,
Creates cautionary touches,
Fashions imaginary noises.
What may sound like a murderer
Rattling his knife along a wall in a dark alleyway
May just be a stray cat
Caught in a group of tin cans.
An object that may feel
Like a slimy creature
May just be a greasy oven top
Uncleaned from the day before.
A menacing figure in a dark forest
Creepily watching a person's movement
May just be an arrangement of trees
Lacking any threatful value.
The terror of darkness
Can also be
The terror of the unknown.
