Father
I can remember the batting cages.
The odd sound of everyone's dedicated swings.
I can remember you standing right on the other side of the cage,
Cheering me on.
I can remember you strumming the strings to the old pawn shop guitar
But then come the memories of you crying;
Because you think you're failing me.
But then come the memories of you being fearful;
Because you're scared to be alone.
I can remember the wishes that I made a night;
Please keep him healthy,
Please let him be happy’
Please, oh please let him love again.
The memories catch up with me though.
And I wanted you to know,
That I live and try for you,
And the only person you are failing is yourself.
The memories catch up with me though.
And I wanted you to know,
You’ll never be alone,
Not for the rest of the life you have left.
And I have to ask;
Why do you need someone to make you happy?
How can I help you?
Why do you try so hard when you don't need to?
Why can’t you accept anyones help?
And why won't you let me help you.
