The rush of heading towards the wall after a set
When everyone is cheering,
And the water steams around each stroke,
But it's as if I am not moving.

That feeling of hearing the timer going off
When I beat my best time.

The anxiety of being milliseconds away
From the goal I have been training for.

That time when the referee was glaring at me
And I was sure that I would not make it.

The moment when I wanted to take a breath,
But I knew it could cost me the win.

When I thought I couldn’t do it,
That I couldn’t kick once more,
That I was never coming to practice again,
I did.
I swam.
And I did it all again.
Just so I could touch the wall after a set.

Swimming is my favorite sport, however it becomes so difficult and it is so competitive that I sometimes feel that I do not want to go. Everytime I have that thought I remember why I started swimming in the first place...
