Crowded street on New York City
You walked past me with the strong musk of vanilla lingering on
passing petals
And a breath of wind whispering
muted words
Obscured by my
springing curiosity.

Next meeting
Rain clouds replaced with
sunny skies
I played on the beach
Architecting sandcastles made to fortify
But when you revealed your hidden pearls
deep inside i knew
the tides were
churning

Cascading reds united us
third meeting
The dimmed sunlight played upon
subtle streaks of gel
And revealed the piercings
hidden behind locks of ash
I opened my mouth to say something
but no words came out
As i was too infatuated with
flannel's patterns of checkered plaid
Perhaps I noticed too late
that I was
falling.

At last the snow came
but our fourth meeting
never occurred.
The footsteps from your Timberlands

pointed toward God's smiling crescent

and were obscured by
melting snow.
Inches of accumulated love,
forever gone.

When spring arrived, no flowers bloomed
My heart
eternally frozen.
And i was forever alone
left in a

desolate
Wonderland.

The author's comments:

I wrote this poem thinking about all the regrets I have; I always waited for happiness to come to me, rather than take charge and grasp it myself. Life is a series of nows. I hope you all learn to live in the present and accomplish anything you want to do in order to live without regrets for the past :) Make use of your teenage life before its over!
