Months,
I’ve spent on the
16" x 20" canvas
in front of me.
Still, I am ashamed.
A paintbrush too rough,
colors too pigmented,
and an artist with a lack of
imagination.
The canvas whispers:
“I’m waiting,”
and wanting to please,
I paint.

Painting without inspiration
is like getting on
the wrong bus.
You won’t end up
where you wanted,
but you’ll still
end up somewhere.

Though sometimes,
(if you’re lucky)
somewhere in the middle,
you’ll find your emotions
running from your heart
and racing down to your fingertips,
which are covered with paint.
Some emotions are old,
like the emotion of anger
from last year
when your landlord kicked you out
for never paying rent.
Some are new,
like the sadness you felt
this morning
when stepping on your cat’s tail.

Old or new,
emotions take control of the brush.
It’s weird how sometimes,
I feel I don’t have any
say in my own paintings,
though sometimes,
I’d rather not.

Abstract slashes come together.
Upon finishing,
a tear falls down my face,
one feeling my painting
could not capture.
All of me in one painting,
my thoughts, beliefs,
intimate moments,
yellow scrunchie, blue record player,
morning coffee, denim jacket.
And what for?
$300?
