"In order to be smart you can't be too smart."

We are taught in society not to think, not to breathe, not to feel.
Not to look, not to touch, not to be ideal.
We are told it’s best to talk and yet the rules are silence.
We are told it’s best to sleep and yet the rules wake me up without defiance.
Violently i’m pulled, the war of tugs
because it is wrong to have earplugs.
We can’t listen to the voices of harmony but force to listen to the everyday voices that slowly kill our mind.
I have to smile like I’m fine.
You say to speak up, but you have to be more clearer,
Because with you we can’t argue, have opinions, I have to say sorry! and you’re the forgiver.
The voices are like a broken record, repeating, repeating, repeating,
We can’t win this game of checkers.
Because you are older, you are king.
And you keep pulling at the pawns last string.
One day my string might break, and I’ll start to shake...with rage. The monster inside me will finally wake, and there will be no breaks. It took long to make, but this battle of should and don’ts’ slowly kill our minds and everything with us.
My ship is sinking as we speak and you put your hand out, but soon pull back in retreat because you don’t mind if we fall.
And as I am filled with rage and fire and scream in my mind,
On the outside I act kind.
You say you know me best, but that is a lie.
Ask yourself, have you ever seen me cry?
No?
Because you don’t want to see me cry, you find that it is attention I seek,
So instead I cry alone quiet and weak.
So what is it?
I wear a mask everyday even though you say be yourself but I can’t.
I am glass, and while you are not actively breaking me, you don’t help pick up the broken pieces.
So instead they are left on the ground, and I step on them, cutting myself on the broken glass.
And yes, you may have a sucky life, but hey so do I.
So what gives you the right that only you can complain, while you don’t even know that I am going insane.

I lay on my bed silent and restless, because these do’s and don’ts list is already endless.
