Through Pages, Between Lines

Through dog eared pages and
A cracked spine
My story is told,
Every loss, every love
In between the lines of
An imaginary adventure.

I am silent
With a book that
Speaks the words that
Fail to pass through the prison of my
Sealed lips.

Each time I cried,

Trying to drown my sorrow

in the familiarity of the tales it told
My tears soaked into its pages
So the ink ran,
Black tears
Over white paper

And when the people in my reality
Turned their backs on me
I plunged into its words
Into the open arms
Of the people living in
The world it created

The story it tells isn't real
But the way it transformed me is,
Because somewhere between
Worn covers and
Repeatedly read words
I found my voice
I recovered from loss and
I learned to love again.
