struck

struck by tough hands
his roughness is loud and full of power
the noise in darkness echos
climbing up the stairs
to this room
where she lays wide eyed
completely awake
her face swollen and cut up
purple and black bruising
masked with layers of foundation
picture perfect
the surface of skin is cracked
far beyond what can be seen or even touched.
