Brought Down to Earth

Euphoria rushes through my body

Tossing my hands into the air, I shout,

"I'm free! I'm free!"

Leaping through the air as if my legs were feathers,

I feel an elephantine weight risen and thrown from my chest.

But in my celebration, a certain thought halts my joy.

You.

You are still anchored to the ground;

Bound by a heartbreak you feel,

But that I am immune to.

And so I rest my dancing body.

I instead float down to lay beside you,

Helping you to bear the pain.

Because this sorrow is too immense to carry on your own.
