Set Aflame

Trying to see stars
But the sky is lit only by the city lights
That line our streets of smoke
And flicker like candles blowing in the wind.
They cast the eeriest shadows of the night,
For they hide much more than
What we are willing to see.
But there’ll be nothing left for us to say
When our towers have melted
And their wealthy facades, grey and sooty,
Have dripped into the sea.
Do your world a favor, my friend.
Take a walk outside
And enjoy the air that reeks of filth;
Yes, the sunset, too,
For it is most magnificent at midnight.
Now tell me -
Is the Earth not
Set aflame
Tonight?
