Machine

I wonder if, during our speedy walks and loud talks,

You are as much a machine as I:

Computing the encrypted messages behind my words,

Understanding my binary code of ones and zeroes,

Reading my emotions through the lens of a hard drive,

Conducting fires through my color-coded wires.

And it frightens me—

The way that you make me feel.

I wonder if, during our speedy walks and loud talks,

You are as much a human as I:

Carefully opening my metallic heart,

Unraveling my programming,

Identifying my glitches.

And it frightens me—

The way I start feeling.
