One Does

September 16, 2016

Teardrops fell,

though not like rain,
for silently the sadness came
It was not heartbreak,
no dreams were crushed,
but empty longing,
a yearning hushed
But what was this thing,
how could such melancholy this bring
A softened heart,
melted from stone,
And so in us His Holy Spirit moans
But why not tears of joy,
of bliss,
what has gone so amiss
And why so tear-stained is this face,
and why is it not so out of place
Why is light not shining from a face,
why has darkness taken its place
The faces dark and black now,
their eyes red beneath their brows
But one stands out,
one does shine bright,
even though it's dark as the blackest of night
