In Charge of Me
Not hiding from, but embellishing
reality was a game I played since three.
In my head and on the paper
I hated the judgement from Teacher since five.
Books built walls to protect
from the negaivities of reality since seven.
Then it turned towards melody:
I've wanted to be a rockstar since eleven.
Dragons, magic, and heartbreak-
I've been free to write since thirteen.
The first characters I loved have lived
because I've breathed life into them since fifteen.
"And it was at that age... Poetry arrived
in search of me"
with Pablo Neruda riding on its back.
Pure expression and "pure wisdom
of someone who knows nothing"
wrapped me in its blanket
and threw its paint on my canvas.
"And it was at that age"
I became the artist in charge
of seeing the picture
in the mess of words and colored thought.
Black turned to Yellow.
I've been happy since fifteen.
I've been a writer since thirteen.
I've been an artist since eleven.
I've been a fansastic since seven.
I've been a fighter since five.
I've been a dreamer since three.
I'm all of these things at sixteen.
I've been me since sixteen.

This is something I wrote about myself for a scholarship opportunity. The prompt was to write about how poetry and writing entered and has effected my life.
