Maybe she does not hit you
We do not see the abuse
Until it slaps us across the face
And leaves us with bruises
Maybe she does not hit you
But her words and her punches
Are one in the same
Maybe she does not hit you
But she calls you names
And makes you feel worthless
Maybe she does not hit you
But she comes at your insecurities
And controls what you wear
And what you do
As if you’re a child
Maybe she does not hit you
But she controls which friends you’re allowed to hang out with
And has to approve your actions
Maybe she does not hit you
But she belittles you
Calls you crazy
And threatens to leave so you will apologize
And blames you when things go wrong
Maybe she does not hit you
But her words hit harder than any punch could
