"When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down 'happy'. They told me I didn't understand the assignment and I told them them they didn't understand life." - John Lennon

she stands on the ledge, feet apart, hands clasped
behind her back
mountains rise, white peaks in the distance, and she falls
wondering
willifly?

/--/

eighteen hours between then and before
now her beat-up sneakers reach that gray platform
nothing but empty skies and promises beneath her
she stands, waiting
willyoucome?

/--/

she doesn't believe anymore, doesn't trust
can't get hurt- but that's not true
every morning she wakes to a ripping pain and when she opens up her insides
they get torn out again and she asks
amiokay?

/--/

she wears black to dissolve not rebel
to disappear into this cosmic nothingness, to be free
and to see if they understand her
fear, for she is made up of faults and the things that scare her
whatami?

/--/

she's missing something, something to keep the gnawing away
to numb- her mind, her blood, her heart
if she could, she'd give her body to the devil
she doesn't want it anymore
willyoutakeit?

/--/

they never cared until it was too late and all the breath
in her lungs were gone
little imprints carving themselves like tattoos onto her heart
learning to fly scared her but
learning to stay scared her even more
wherewilligo?

/--/

there are too many people in this world, to know or not,
and she knows maybe more than she thinks
but she doesn't care because she's flying... down... down...
she's reaching the stars
willyourememberme?
