"If I wasn't an actor, I would have been a secret agent." - Thornton Wilder

We talked of
Kings and queens;
Jealousies;
Corn fields and a sea breeze
All while reading and writing –
Singing and talking –
Listening and learning –
Eating and drinking.
Drinking in every moment
And every scene with eyes closed
While lights lit up the night
And fire encapsulated the morning.
Not everything was said
(Not everything had to be)
But enough for the first rotation.
I’ve spent the time in red Converse,
A black ribbon in my hair
Waiting for a serenade –
From no Romeo! Maybe a Gonzalo.
That shirt of yours that I love
Looks better on the floor.
Filthy waves fill the paved
Way, getting in the way.
You backed up but kept moving forward
And I’m waiting for the arrival.
We talked of a fire place
And toys on the floor;
A whole wall for the worlds
And properly folded shirts.
So many states and states of mind
And rushing water would be just fine.
There’ll be birthday cards and chocolate cake
And days for lounging about our home
Because it will be our home.
For now we have our plans and dreams
And efforts to make them come true.
