Favorite Quote:
"Soon madness has worn you down. It’s easier to do what it says than argue. In this way, it takes over your mind. You no longer know where it ends and you begin. You believe anything it says. You do what it tells you, no matter how extreme or absurd. If it says you’re worthless, you agree. You plead for it to stop. You promise to behave. You are on your knees before it, and it laughs."
— Marya Hornbacher

our lives are no more than one big masquerade

parading around with smiles plasered to our face

we cover up our tearstained cheeks and bloodshot eyes

and weave a web of beautiful lies

all caught up in our perfect facade

trying to believe we are not flawed

the truth betrayed by a single sign

but if anyone asks, tell them we're fine

I wrote this poem earlier today in my creative writing class for a free write with the prompt, "but if anyone asks, tell them we're fine".
