real life MAG
she was sinking in the desert,
tingling of scorpions,
skittering down her throat
almost as if they were becoming the words,
she forced herself to swallow
she felt the aftermath of his love,
just like the waves from the sun,
it burned and broke her skin
tore her open and left her there to bleed,
in the desert sand, perhaps
she had lived in her fantasy world too long,
“is it just me?”
the words came out cracked as she asked
the inevitable
“he’s all in your head, darling”
the words came from no one in particular
“why did i let this get out of hand?”
“hush, young one”
“but … why lies on your lips when
there’s love in your eyes?”
“maybe if you just let yourself go …”
the voice came and went,
sounding a little more like him
with each word spoken
loving him was her first mistake,
letting herself go was her last.
