do you know the name of the shadow
with his feet propped on your kitchen table?
he showed up at your door with a bottle
of fine wine
and poured himself a glass.
when he offered you one with an outstretched hand
you accepted almost too eagerly.
every now and then he crashes on my couch
for a few days,
but he sucks the color right out of my living room
and i tell him to find a new place to stay.
this time he has found you.
listen to his stories and share yours.
learn from him and smile with him.
whatever you do,
do not trust him.
