Douglas Evan Nature Preserve
Down, down, down a hill,
twisting, curving, autumn leaves swaying,
down to a sienna sign
Leap out,
hear the crunch of the dirt and rock under your shoe,
dry as a desert
step into a world of wonder
Around every corner, bright colors pop out at you
reds, greens, blues, pinks, golden grasses swaying in the breeze,
the sun glaring,
beating with its flaxen rays,
the dust colored dirt
down a bijou footpath,
flowers and grasses beckon
to the creek,
its circling waters titter at you as it surges passed
bouncing, pouncing, skipping over rocks and roots,
running, running, running with the river,
so close, so close to the teepee made of sticks
Heard the creak of the fifty year old trees,
leaves of every shade flutter to the ground
Old metal tires rusted red by the years,
kaput by the river to this beautiful wonderland
grasses, weeds, and bushes of thorns grow within them now
rock beds and fallen trees make this my playground
From the moment I found it,
this forest was my home
My dear home away from home
