Rushing into the backyard
Signaling for the attention of anyone
Anyone who could help.
The sight of the bubblegum spread over your face
Could make a stone-face crack.
We laughed until your face changed
From that bright shade of pink
to rosy red.
Then we got to work,
Attempting to remove that mask
That was sticky as glue.
The tissue that was meant to remove
That bubblegum mask
Now ripped apart, shredded,
Adding to the mess
we already had on our hands.
The battle we had embarked upon
Was finally lost.
Waving the little white flags on our fingertips,
admitting defeat,
Crushing the hopes of handling problems,
We asked an adult for help.
The sight of the bubblegum on your face
Could make a stone-face crack.
That never would’ve happened
to anyone else
But it was so simply you.
