Half-Burned Cigarette
Divorce the half-burned cigarette from
your wrinkled, gray lips, and
desperately drag your trembling tears down to them.
Hydrate those lips, bloody, used, and helpless,
and the admit the battles lost when you
impatiently looked away.
“They just used me. They just took what they could get.”
Silence strains it’s voice again
as you raised that half-burned cigarette.
