I reached up for the light of the small closet.
Going in I see a rainbow of clothes
Feeling the blue velvet dress I wore last week
Remembering that I had been a movie star
Pulling out the tie-dye t-shirt and bell bottom jeans
Amused, mom saying that I was a hippie
That winter jacket and itchy hat
From when I climbed up imaginary mountains last Tuesday
I hold up the elegant pink and blue dress and twirl around,
Which I wore with my friends, when we had tea with the queen
The yellow ball gown from last month
When I was a princess dancing with prince charming
Finding the pink scrubs and stethoscope
From when I was the doctor yesterday,
Back in my room I open up my old wardrobe to get dressed
Smelling the pancakes cooking, I follow the sweet scent to the kitchen
Mom and Dad are reading the morning news
Looking up, surprised, they smile at my plain green shirt and jeans
Asking me, who I am today?
“Myself”, I say with a smile.
