Magnolia
branches
extend from
an ever-so-big body;
like arms that hold
a nest of young birds
or offer a home to those who
seek shelter in her shade
from sun and rain. Her flowers
perch precariously
upon her embossed
green leaves and seem
to glow in a beautiful blend
of whites and pinks
that provide her with a perfume
all her own. They are the same
petals that make me look forward
to their beautiful blooms in the spring,
when the sun and sky reflect off her leaves.
When I sit in her arms, close to her body.
She doesn't seem to mind
that I talk to her and tell
her all my stories. And she,
in return, provides me
with a place to go
and escape the world.
