Me

I am human
I am not a stone statue
Aloof on top of a high mountain
Dictating the choices made below
Dictating the people below

I am human
I am not porcelain
Fine china on top a high shelf
To be admired and adored
Gazed upon in its beauty
But never felt never used

I am human
I am not a genius
A scientist in her own mind
To busy solving world problems for
Friends
Or family
Or love

I am human
I am not a court jester
Here for their amusement
“Always there for a laugh”
I am not dumb

I am human
I make mistakes (a lot)
I pronounce Catsup Catchup
And aloe aw-low
And can’t use chopsticks (at all)

I am not perfect
I am not all one thing

Yet they see me as what they want to see
A ruler
Glass
A genius
A goof

Yet they never see me as I really am
I am human

This piece represents the pressure that  every teenager has felt about the expectations of others on  what they should be and do  and that it is okay to "be human" and make mistakes
