Nature's Law
I have been hiding in my comfort lines,
Never chasing a single color wept.
But I’m tired of lancing in the night,
Feeling for dreamers between you and I.
Through realists I hear a clarion horn.
Come on, come with me, blue longing; let’s go.
To where mountaintops curl into soft smoke.
Where the wind will pare echoes from our ribs.
I know a river here—it’ll quench the fire
On our lips, the mouthing empty holdouts
Biting down on feverish phantom ropes.
We talk of wastelands turned to paradise.
I feel the tongues that shiver down your back.
Submerged in black fear, I melt with kingdoms
I created; all for you, just for you.
My neck peels from my spine to nacre skies.
As undulating caves turn into tombs,
I step over stones bearing the world’s weight.
They don’t weather. Only us, only us.
Your naked, trembling teeth bore into me.
Before Her law, it’s time I see there is
Nothing left I can do. My cleaving heart
Wants out, but I keep it in—you were right,
I am alone. We all fall to the ground.
