you looked out the telescope and pointed
to a spot between two
inky black boughs of a tree
can you see saturn’s rings? they’re so
bright
tonight
you waved your arm across the
caliginosity of the sky in an
arc and seemed to leave behind a trail of
wispy opaqueness
(how did you do that?)
see the edge of the galaxy?
that’s the milky way
and i thought that was it
you were my milky way but
i
was never even
your lullaby
