His words are honey sweet, like sunshine on my skin.
It warms me up and makes me want more.

His words make me want him thisclose.
His words are all I need, what I miss him for.

Hi words keep me alive.
He leaves too soon and I am starving.

His words are addiction, I am begging for them.
He is my dealer and I am the addict.
With bleeding veins and glassy eyes
I look up at him
as if he is my messiah.

His words swallow me whole.
Just to chew me up and
spit me back out again.

His words will break me but I don't let go.
He is my raft in the raging sea.

His words tear me apart
and sow me back together.
Is this what ecstasy feels like?

His words hold me too close,
I sob for something less fleeting.
I just want to feel his warmth.

His words are salvation and
I am the sinner at the pulpit.
He brings me closer to god.
I can feel the safety in his words,
but the danger too.

His words cleanse me,
purity at the hand of the executioner.
He will be the end of me,
and it will be lovely.

His words give me fangs and claws,
I howl at the moon.
No longer quite human.
But it’s alright, it always is.

His words soothe me
speak to me and seek me.
He needs me just as much as I need him and
He knows what he does to me.
I love him for it.

His words are honey sweet, like sunshine on my skin,
it made me want him too close.

The title was inspired by the song Freshman by Jay Brannan. I feel like this song relates to the songs About a Girl and Heart-Shaped Box by Nirvana. This poem isn't meant to glorify or advocate for violent relationships or addictions.
