That Girl

July 9, 2015

Everybody's like who's that girl walking around town
Her feet they don't touch the ground
This girl's walking on air
She doesn't really care
What other people say
She's an absolute mystery.

Nobody knows her name
But she's got a spirit you can't tame
She walks like she owns the town
Like she's wearing a diamond crown.

She talks like she doesn't care who listens
And you realize she's the piece of you that's been missin'.

She's got nerves of steel

She'll never let you know what she feels

You turn her into one from your storybook
But she's got more than what you can see in one look.

She'll shut her door
So no one can see her war
The battles she fights everyday
The looks that get thrown her way.
She built a wall
Made it of cold hard silence
And the feeling when you fall
Made it out of her own reliance.
She's breaking but no can see
Through the mask she wears everyday
Of the girl she's trying to be.

And she'll never really say
What's going wrong
Even if you ask all night long.

She's not what you think
She's close to the brink
Of falling flat
With a drop of a hat
Losing everything she worked for
She doesn't know what to do any more.

But she'll keep going
At the same pace without slowing
She's a fighter
Fighting for a future that's brighter.
Put your book of fairytales away
She's not going that way.

She'll never let anyone in
Acts like that'd be a sin.
She's Cinderella without the fairy godmother
She's Gretel but without her brother
She'll make her own way without magic
She'll make sure her story won't end tragic
She's a mystery
Won't take sympathy.

The author's comments:

She will read this one day. I'll probably never meet her, but I hope she knows she can take on the world.

She is you, right now, reading this. Don't lose hope.

Best of luck to you because I know you're going through something but you'll make it out.

xx
