art should disturb the comfortable and comfort the disturbed

stop trying to walk in sync with me
my feet are playing a faster beat
your grasping hands are making me trip
your shrill screams are deafening my ears

allow me to express
who i want to be
without asking you for permission
or receiving one of your murderous glares

i used to glide my fingers over the piano
but now i can only play staccato
broken, jumpy notes
filled with distrust and premonition

the sun was once my friend
we would sit around until it was the moon's turn to talk
crickets chirping provided melody to our songs
yet you came along and cast a shadow
introducing darkness to the light

in bed i lay awake
the constant shivers that course my body
and your foot curling into mine
make me feel like i am sleeping with monsters instead of men

i figure it would be easier
to stop the music all together
you couldn't follow me there
into the clouds and far, far away
since i cant find a fairytale ending in this hell

writers have a way of rearranging letters to create the same words they've written before
even if the sentences are different
or the paragraphs are misplaced

so maybe thats why i am still here
because i've never been written to quit
and i have never defied your delicate touch
