When the Crows Came

It was you
and it was me,
standing on opposites sides
of this deteriorating
garden.
  Both of us
blocked away by glass barriers.
Your green eyes blinked at me,
I stared back at you
and pointed to the tiny holes in the walls.
  We tried to squeeze through,
but it was pointless.
So we started breaking our
   b
    o
     n
      e
       s.
    Warping our frames,
    our bodies,
    our entire beings...
to get to each other.
At first it was painless for us.
  We hardly noticed what we were doing.
   Destroying ourselves
    to get to each other.
   You were crying.
  I was screaming.
Our bodies were bleeding.
And eventually,
we finally fit through.
I thought I could finally get to you.
   Our physique was too damaged beyond
    r
     e
      p
       a
        i
         r.
    We couldn’t get to each other.
    I couldn’t even crawl to you.
     We were paralyzed.
     Our broken bodies lay,
      Looking towards each other in
       dismay.
    And then,
    the crows came.
     And they ate us.
