I dropped the ball,
Mainly so I could watch it fall.
I thought it'd bounce back up,
Like it did so often in the past,
But it shattered like a China cup,
I didn't know it couldn't last.

So what made this ball fragile now?
So many questions, but I must ask how.

I've dropped it before,
Many times over if I may say,
But never had it cracked;
Turned to pieces;
Gone like ash.

Maybe I wanted it to break,
Or maybe I hoped it could ache.
Because then it could feel,
It could know how I deal.
When the pressure is on,
Sometimes I can crack,
When I'm ready by next dawn,
Sometimes I'm right back on track.
