Cracked Like Pavement

Stark and bland
Cracked and stained
Pitted with the memories long forgotten
Rotting
Abandoned in the rain
Laying alone
Waiting and hoping
Yet glued to the ground
Wishing for the stars that
Shine so bright yet
Deadly
The stab of words
And the crushing pressure
Widening the cracks into
Canyons
Seemingly bottomless
Filling with swirling rivers of dread
Until they overflow with the sorrow
Drowning their victim in
Waves of depression
Choking and strangling
Their helpless sacrifice:
