"If you were half as funny as you think, you'd be twice as funny as you think you are." -Clary Fray

The chirping of the yellow-tailed bird found its way

to her ears and like the birds wings, her eyes flutter

open to a poster of a pre-adolescent Justin Bieber

smiling at her with his floppy hair.

     She sighs and gets up.

The dimly-lit bathroom reflects the uniform of

neutral expression she irons, wrinkle free.

She stares at the person in front of her.

Out the door without a glance at the attempted

breakfast her father made.

Danny? Damien? Whatever.

She walks, Not Afraid by Eminem piercing her eardrums.

But it doesn't bother her like it used to. Like when she cried

as the shouts invaded, unannounced.

And now, she embraces the distraction. Drowning in the

calm of the rushing river of words describing the exact opposite

     She feel... numb.

And so that automatically makes her just like 99.99% of the

population. A dime, no, a penny a dozen.

     Nothing new. Nothing unique.

Just a girl living her life like any other.

The author's comments:

This piece of poetry potrays the daily rituals the average teenage girl goes through in today's generation. Hoping to be "normal" or "average" (although some people deny to desire such things) to blend in the crowd per say is what this girl's life is. By doing this, I hope to shed some light that being "normal" is kinda boring.
