By the shores of the Hungarian lake,
I sit peacefully on the cement,
Staring across the rippling waters
At the jagged landscape
On the horizon.
I am sitting with my sisters
But somehow I sit apart.
6.378 inches separate me from Amelia.
6.378 inches of cement.
My hair streaming in the wind,
The sun beaming down on my warm cheeks,
I should be happy.

It is a quiet, peaceful moment,
But my thoughts are not at peace.
At this beautiful, calming setting,
I am not by the shores of the Hungarian lake.
I am back in the emerald city of rain.

Seattle.

The author's comments:

When I was eleven, I lived in Hungary for a year. I spent most of the year homesick for my friends, which was something I now regret. After I came back, my friends and I had grown apart. I miss Hungary, and I wish I had taken time to be in the moment and enjoy it more.

And you say you are not a poet. This is beautiful! I love how you can find so many hidden meanings behind this poem.
