I would stand on the edges of rivers, brooks, streams,
Staring at the peaceful disfiguration of the less than flat surfaces underneath
And the pebbles that became smoothed over from the constant flow.
I found solace in the stillness of puddles, ponds, lakes,
No ripples to break the stability
And the secret lives that took place under the surface.
I sat in the rain to melt everything away until I was pure,
The dirt and sin falling down street drains
And paper boats floating away next to painted lines.

Water never broke my heart before today.
There were dormant pools that sat in your eyes
Until they broke and teardrops fell like the rain
And the rivers that flowed behind them stained your cheeks.
I tried to stop them from rusting perfection,
But I am not the controller of chemical reactions.
You left wet spots on the left side of my chest,
And like paper my heart tore to pieces.
Now I’d rather die of
Dehydration
Than ever see any form of liquid again.

It killed me to see you all cry.
