I am so sick of hearing, “Your generation...”
Do I own this generation? Am I the leader?
Do I represent this whole generation?
Or does this generation represent me?
What sampling did you take to decide what this generation is like?
One from the middle class, upper, and the wealthy.
Any from poverty? Any from destitution?

I am so sick of hearing , “Kids these days...”
Because I am more than my age,
And if you took the time to consider “that kids these days”
Have feelings like you do, then maybe you wouldn’t accuse them
Of crimes they don’t realize they are committing.
Stop blaming them for acting how you’ve raised them to be.

I am so sick of hearing, “All they ever do is…”
I’m sorry--did you sit and watch us
Every minute, of every day
And come to that conclusion?
Did we sit around every moment playing video games and eating
And never working
For every single second
And every single minute?

Or did you not count the seconds
Where we sat and cried because of the pressure
Because those seconds don’t say
What you want our story to be?
And did you not count the seconds
Where we achieved amazing things:
Wrote poems, made discoveries, and explored
Mathematics and sciences that you never even bothered to learn?

I am so sick of hearing people judge this generation.
Please live our lives for a day
Before you decide to preach exactly how things are.

Inspired by the increasing number of comments I have been receiving concerning "today's generation". I hope it opens someone's eyes to the blatant flaws in these accusations.
