Count Your Scars

You don’t count your scars like I do
There are two on your neck that
Make an X shape
One on your side,
Melding with your rib
Three on your back that
I thought would disappear
You don’t count your scars
For they remind you of who you are
And how you have failed
We stand in front of each other
Naked and shivering
We try to count each other’s scars
But they are as invisible as the
Strings attached to something good
There are no scars
Save for the ones in our minds.
