I love you

“I love you,” is a lot to say
And I know you don’t want those words
On your conscience
Because you think they’ll snap like cords
Inside you
And end up breaking you in half

But my mouth
Is full of teeth that aren’t mine
And I have to spit them out,
I’m sorry, but I can’t help that
Those deadly lines always follow
My broken canines and
I can’t help that my tongue aches
At the sight of you

I can’t help that you
Scorn company in misery,
And find misery in company
I can’t help that you
stay on the roof
alone and
lonely and never know
when to come back...

And I can’t help that I love you
I’ll give you my heart
Hold you
And intertwine
Our fingers to show
That love is not a lie
We’ll shiver together
On that lonely, grey rooftop
And I’ll whisper in your ear

"I love you."
