The boardwalk allows me to see past the crowds
At the edge lies mysterious waters
Sand dunes of varying heights only add to the never ending view
A steep flight of stairs entice me as I step onto the sinking cold sand.

I walk across the speckled cream colored sand,
towards the slightly murky water and bits of white foam.
I look up to the infinite expanse of clear blue sky,
A vast space that stretches into the bright horizon.

The sound of pigeons' flapping wings surround the boardwalk.
Like freed animals, excited students run around laughing and squealing.
The overlapping waves are like a gentle applause
And in the background small gusts of wind blow left and right,
Almost like kids and their lighthearted gossip.

How many have walked across the glistening sand in the sunlight?
What kind of markings have been washed away by the ever moving water?
Five years from now, will I remember what I did today?

Souvenir shells poke my hand as I carry them with me.
A cool breeze brushes past me like the gentle waves wash over my feet.
Wet sand clings to my skin up to my ankles.
For a few moments everything is still.
A calm and peaceful silence consumes me from the inside out.

People tend to get lost in the busyness of everyday life.
However, everything was beautiful and ever so present in that
one moment,
            one moment,
                        one moment.

So all the eighth grade students in the Gifted Program at my school went on an overnight trip to Savannah, Georgia and while we were there we went to Tybee Island and did a beach study and afterwords we were released for 30 minutes and this is a poem to describe my experience. Hope you enjoy it! <3
