At the Edge of Night

Sleep evades me this night
Tauntingly it stays
Just out of reach;
On the tips of my eyelashes
Slyly, it hovers
Heavy, hanging on to the edges
Of my eyelids. Tonight
Sleep does not deign to let me dream.
