I cannot understand it-

How it’s turned out this way.

At first you followed me around,

Flirting and wooing, in my way.

I guess your wooing worked though,

because I fell in love.

But what I cannot understand is

how unequal it’s become.

I heard someone say somewhere once

that love does not exist in equal shares.

That two people will always love -

in unequal pairs.

I don’t know if I believe this,

But I know I feel it’s true

that I’ve grown to love you more,

that you love me less than you used to.

When you would’ve traded the world for me,

I wouldn’t have done the same.

But now I feel the opposite -

that this love is not a game.

The tables have turned,

the roles reversed -

I cannot understand it.

Loving under these new terms.

Now I am the fool in love,

and you, the indifferent object.
