Doing It Again

I have done it for so long
Then I had to quit
I didn't do it for a while,
I thought I had it beat...
But I had to go back,
I couldn't leave that behind.
It's all I have ever known.
I don't know what else to do.
But for my safety and his I need to..
The longer I go without-
The deeper and longer the marks get.
The more I start to carve-
Words with straight lines cut deep in my skin...
It is how I live,
How I have always lived.
And probably always will...
