Summer
Your sun-kissed skin and eyes like the ocean
Called upon my long-dormant heart,
And we loved under a sky scattered with stars
That hummed with drowsy mosquitos and teenage stupidity.
Your lips were my addiction,
The only drug I needed in the dark corner of another party,
Drugs of a different kind intoxicating the air.

Fall
The leaves changed and so did we,
Passionate hues of red and gold
Fading to the casual blue of breezy days.
Nights grew colder, we grew closer
And now your hands are forever imprinted on my skin,
Reminders of you holding me through the first thunderstorm
Stretched sweater sleeves muffling your fingerprints.

Winter
I never knew ice and fire could coexist
But your feverish lips melted the ice in my bones.
We were a hopeless cliche,
With shared hoodie pockets and matching Starbucks cups
Your beanie placed upon my wild curls
Cold fingers woven together
Like the threads of your worn sweater
That found a home on my body.

Spring
The season of reawakening
Resurfaced your obsession with her
And I was left
Hating the forget-me-nots growing in my backyard
And the garden you grew in my heart
Choked with weeds
Every time I saw you
Sharing our spring with that girl who wasn’t me,
Recycled flowers coloring her cheeks.
