Everyone makes mistakes. The trick is to make mistakes when nobody is looking.

People have said don’t grow up too fast
I have learned that I need to
Growing up is not a journey
In an instant it takes the reins
Chokes my life out of me
Now I know without a doubt
Adulthood is not simple bliss
Money is always an issue
People are always there
I need to always care
No more ignorance
No more naivety
No more me
Only the world
The world is a big place
Casts me out to the immense seven seas
To explore the depths and heights
Take freedom and put it under a microscope
Observe the ways you can control it
Sucking the truth and life and love out of it
Adulthood is a murderer
Sucking the life out of sweetly serendipitous smiles
Growing up is a massacre of dreams
Reality is adulthood greedily gobbling hopes
They say don’t’ grow up too fast
I can only dream and hope
Dreams that are alive
Hopes that become real
Reality that is alright

The author's comments:

My parents are divorced and I rarely talk to my father and he doesn't really care too much about me. I have learned some hurt filled secrets lately and also dealing with college applications and having to talk to my father about college --- those things are all swirling in my mind and I just needed an escape. So I typed up this poem. It is a straight from my heart type of poem, a first and final draft emotion filled piece.
