Delight In Details
I held these days in the shackles of contempt,
When the movie didn’t play, I resorted to the re-runs
And they would run.
And run.
And run.
All of the homework, lectures, presentations, late-nights, and finals blurred together.
Smudging the laughter, memories, smiles, and pure joy into the ink that wrote my story.
I know the climax, I see the characters,
I feel the emotion.
I’ve memorized these pages front and back.
Yet, it is a story I have yet to read.
It’s unwritten, unfinished.
Those shackles of contempt pinned me in mundane redundancy
Did I ever once open my eyes for
Morning sunshine without remorse for the hour?
Were the bricks that built these walls always that pristine?
Did a smile from a friend really tear through these shadows?
Would I have noticed those common commodities that brought intricate meaning to my life?
Could I?
Cherish this blessing;
To breathe another breath,
To blink, and see the world anew.
Be grateful and have compassion,
See what this blissful life entails.
Find reward and joy in all you do,
Delight in details.
